Cerebral Palsy Space
One time...At a Time

Mision & Vision

To witness the inclusiveness of the children with cerebral palsy and their caregivers in the society.

To promote the respect and recognition of the children with cerebral palsy and caregivers, protection of their rights as well as inclusion in key policy decision making.

Cerebral Palsy Space (CEPAS) is a registered community-based organization (NJI/CBO/1/2020/349) founded in 2020 by Ms. Susan Njeri, inspired by her daughter Princess Gathoni, who has lived with cerebral palsy (CP) since 2010. Originating as a parent support group in 2016, CEPAS addresses gaps in CP care, particularly in Dandora and Korogocho, by tackling challenges like lack of awareness, cultural stigma, and limited resources. Through collaborations with donors and the community, CEPAS organizes activities to support caregivers and improve the lives of children with CP, focusing on mobility, feeding, and therapy. Currently operating from rented premises in Dandora Phase I, the organization advocates for proactive, affordable, and sustainable solutions for families affected by CP.

PROGRAMS UNDER CEPAS:

Daycare centre

Cerebral palsy (CP) affects balance and coordination, making it difficult for children to achieve milestones like sitting, standing, and walking. CEPAS provides a daycare where parents can leave their children while they work. To ease transportation, we hire a daily shuttle, ferrying 15 children at a cost of Ksh.100 per child.

Therapy services

Children with CP require therapy and training to achieve their milestones as well as to prevent secondary disabilities. We have some volunteers who come at least twice a week to attend to kids for occupational therapy.

Assistive devices

Growing children with CP need wheelchairs, splints, and corsets to aid mobility and prevent complications. We collaborate with donors and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities to secure these essential devices.

Diaper drives

Children with CP often rely on diapers due to mobility and communication challenges. Every three months, we mobilize diapers for 50–100 children, helping families struggling to balance food and hygiene needs.

Feeding program

Many families raising children with CP struggle to afford food. With partners like Farm-to-Feed, we provide vegetables and farm produce to 50 families weekly, covering three days’ worth of meals. Proper nutrition is vital due to their weakened immunity.

Creating Awareness

CEPAS fights stigma and misinformation surrounding CP, ensuring affected children are embraced, not abandoned. We engage communities, medical practitioners, and social media to educate and advocate.

Guidance and counseling

Parenting a child with CP can be overwhelming. Through workshops and home visits, we support caregivers, fostering acceptance and emotional well-being for both parent and child.

Empowerment and sustainability

CEPAS strives for self-sustainability. We train mothers in tailoring, producing mattress covers and school uniforms for income. Young people from the community also enroll in tailoring courses, creating job opportunities while supporting our mission.
